USING OWN JOB

It may sound obvious but the first consideration will be the opportunities that exist within the job and possibly the work of colleagues.

In looking at what is to be achieved, give careful thought to the activities involved and the opportunities that they present. For example:

a) you may find within your existing job, there are opportunities perhaps through attending meetings, being involved with working groups or undertaking specific tasks, to help you improve your skills and knowledge;

b) there may be the opportunity with the agreement of your line manager to achieve your objectives, but through the use of a different style of work. You could record information, log and analyses it in a reportable form for a manager. You could undertake a project to meet your development needs; involving another member of staff, reporting to a different manager to obtain a different aspect on a job;

c) enlist the help of others, perhaps by working alongside them, to find out about a specific area of work and how they approach it. Offer the same opportunity to other people and brush up on your own coaching skills.
